November 4 Recap: Kings Rout San Jose 7 to 2 as Kempe Adds a Hat Trick

Four games on the NHL schedule Wednesday and one number to hang the night on: Adrian Kempe’s three goals. The Los Angeles Kings forward scored a hat trick and added an assist in a 7 to 2 rout of San Jose, the biggest score of the night.

Kempe opened the scoring at 1:23 of the first and completed the trick on the power play at 15:51 of the second to make it 5 to 1. Artemi Panarin collected four assists, Quinton Byfield scored twice with the extra man, and the Kings won even though San Jose outshot them 32 to 27. Macklin Celebrini and Ivar Stenberg answered with power play goals for the Sharks and Los Angeles went up four at the end anyway.

Florida needed more than it should have against Chicago. The Panthers led 3 to 0 after two periods on a first period goal from Sandis Vilmanis, a Carter Verhaeghe power play goal and a tally from Seth Jones. Roman Kantserov cut it to 3 to 1 late in the second, then Frank Nazar struck twice in the third, once short handed, to pull Chicago within 3 to 4 before Sam Reinhart made it 5 to 3 at 18:33. Vilmanis finished with two goals and two assists, and the Panthers outshot Chicago 30 to 20.

The other one goal game went to the visitor. Buffalo led 1 to 0 on Peyton Krebs’ goal at 14:00 of the second, then Shane Pinto tied it at 11:33 of the third and Michael Amadio scored the go-ahead goal at 16:51. S. Ersson stood in the Ottawa net and gave up one goal on 24 shots, a 0.958 save percentage, and the Sabres went home empty.

Seattle needed overtime to get past Calgary. Yegor Sharangovich put Calgary up 1 to 0 in the first, Berkly Catton evened it in the second, and Matty Beniers ended it 2 to 1 at 0:55 of overtime. J. Daccord was 0.962 in the Kraken net.
