November 6 Recap: Ducks Rally From 3 to 1 Down to Win 5 to 3 in Calgary as Husso Is Perfect in Relief

Three finals Friday night, and the story belonged to a comeback that looked impossible at the first intermission. Anaheim trailed Calgary 3 to 1 after one period, outshot in the frame and chasing, then scored four unanswered goals to win 5 to 3. The spine of it was V. Husso, perfect on ten shots in relief after L. Dostal surrendered three on eleven.

Calgary scored first at 2:23 of the opening period when W. Stromgren backhanded one home, and J. Malott answered for the Ducks just 27 seconds later. The Flames pulled away anyway on goals from J. Hanley and J. Farabee on the power play, the latter landing with 58 seconds left in the first to make it 3 to 1. From there Anaheim simply took over. T. Luneau cut the gap at 12:02 of the second, L. Carlsson buried a power play goal 55 seconds into the third to even it at 3 to 3, and C. Gauthier, logging his 12th of the season, put the Ducks ahead with 94 seconds left. N. Nesterenko closed the door on an empty net at 19:46. B. Sennecke picked up two assists, both on third period goals, and took the first star.

Buffalo 5 to 2 over Columbus was tidier. K. Johnson tied it at 1 to 1 with 4:00 left in the first, and the Sabres answered with four unanswered goals. J. Norris scored twice, O. Power collected three assists, and R. Dahlin and J. Doan added goals as Buffalo fired 37 shots to Columbus 26. U. Luukkonen turned aside 24 of 26, and Z. Werenski’s power play goal with 1:39 to play changed nothing but the final tally.

Minnesota 4 to 1 over San Jose ran through its two louder names. Kirill Kaprizov posted four points on a power play goal and three assists, and Q. Hughes added a goal and two helpers from the blue line to take the first star. Macklin Celebrini tied the game at 1 to 1 at 12:11 of the second, and the Wild needed just 2:04 to retake the lead, M. Shabanov finishing a power play. Q. Hughes pushed it to 3 to 1 early in the third and Z. Bogosian sealed it at 13:58 while J. Wallstedt stopped 23 of 24. Y. Askarov was busy the night through, 25 saves on 29 shots, and it still counted as one.
